Buying

How to buy right

Buy graded cards for any purchase above a couple of hundred dollars. The cost of grading is cheap insurance against misrepresentation. Check the population report before paying a premium for a high-grade card. Know what PSA 10 actually means for the specific card

Research recent comparable sales on eBay sold listings, PWCC, and the major auction houses before making any significant purchase. The market moves quickly and last year's price guide is often wrong. For raw cards, learn to grade. Handle as many cards as possible before buying

The difference between a legitimate PSA 9 and a PSA 7 is learnable with practice. Buying raw cards you have accurately assessed can produce significant value over buying already-graded cards at grade-premium prices.

CollectorGrade take

Comparable sales research is non-negotiable. The trading card market is one of the most transparent collector categories precisely because so much data is publicly available. Use it. The price you should pay is what comparable cards have actually sold for recently, not what anyone is asking.
